Both Alabama and Georgia started the 2025 college football season slower than expected. The lack of offensive chemistry cost Alabama the loss to Florida State. The atypical defensive woes of Georgia nearly cost them against Tennessee. Still, both teams find themselves firmly locked inside the top 20 teams in the nation. Both quarterbacks, Gunner Stockton and Ty Simpson, look like some of the hottest in the country. It’s still Alabama versus Georgia, so everyone knows this could get weird per usual.

Given just how impactful this game might be for the SEC and the entire College Football Playoff picture as a whole, media members from A to Z Sports who cover both teams decided to predict the winner. Who will win this epic SEC rivalry match? The picks are in. Enjoy!

Georgia 27, Alabama 24

It’s a strange year for both Georgia and Alabama football. Neither team has a defense ranked inside the top 25 by most any measure. Both teams have new quarterbacks who are still getting their feet under them–albeit more impressively lately. Rather than either team having a dominant run game, they instead both have trios of wide receiver weapons breaking out for them. The offenses have been looking good in recent weeks for Alabama and Georgia, but trends often go out the window in this rivalry.

Kirby Smart has struggled to defeat Alabama ever since taking over at head coach (1-6 against the Tide), but Saban is gone. Still, this battle likely comes down more to defense as opposed to the red hot offenses. The Bulldogs found their footing late in the game against the Vols and started to bring more consistent pressure. Alabama had their defense looking good as early as the middle of the third quarter against Florida State, but it was just too late. The creative use of Georgia’s linebackers and defensive front stemming do just enough to throw Alabama QB Ty Simpson off his rhythm for much of this game and the Bulldogs win a close one at home. – Travis May, A to Z Sports CFB & NFL Draft Managing Editor

Alabama 35, Georgia 30

If Alabama didn’t flop against Florida State the way they did in Week 1, this game had the chance to be the best on a loaded slate. The Georgia Bulldogs had an impressive come-from-behind win in Neyland Stadium against a very good Tennessee Vols team. I think Alabama is a little bit better, though. I think Ty Simpson has settled in nicely after a rocky start, and that Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb know where their bread is buttered on offense. That being Ryan Williams and the return of Jam Miler. Defensively is where this game is tricky. A scary practice injury to Jah-Marien Latham has him likely to miss the game. Tim Keenan and LT Overton should be back, but both have dealt with injuries this season. Alabama will need all of its horses to slow down Gunner Stockton and the dogs, but I think they get the job done. – Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports Alabama

Georgia 29, Alabama 24

Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Stockton finally shut down critics in his first SEC road match against the Vols two weeks ago and proved that he has a legitimate arm that he isn’t afraid to use. What I love so much about Stockton’s response to that massive win is just how humble he remained. He has now proven he can hang against the best and I think welcoming the Crimson Tide “Between the Hedges” in front of their hometown crowd will give him and the rest of the Dawgs a major boost. Sure, it’s not going to be easy up against an Alabama’s defense, but if Stockton can make big plays downfield happen again, the Dawgs come out on top. It also helps that they just had an extra week to prepare and Kirby Smart knows how to win following a bye. – Kelsey Kramer, A to Z Sports Georgia

Georgia 27, Alabama 13

I’m still selling Alabama until we finally see some signs of life and development from this team against top competition. While the Bulldogs are outpacing offensive expectations at a level I didn’t foresee, Alabama’s red flags from the offseason might’ve been undersold. This could be the straw that breaks the fan base’s belief in Kalen DeBoer. However, it’s also possible we see it go the other way. The challenge here will be Alabama playing with the discipline that’s evaded the team since this regime took over. In no way is Alabama more talented than this Georgia squad, so the onus is on DeBoer to manufacture offensive drives and win in the margins. I simply don’t believe he’s capable of that right now. – Ian Valentino, A to Z Sports LSU

Final Score Predictions for Alabama vs. Georgia

The A to Z Sports staff gives the edge here to the home team with the victory likely going to the Georgia Bulldogs. However, on average our team members picked this game to finish 28-24, so it should be close like these rivalry games usually are. Hopefully something close to that prediction is correct so we get to see another instant classic.
