Former Georgia Bulldogs star wide receiver Ladd McConkey is continuing to flash his insane speed at the next level.

On Sunday night football in the Los Angeles Chargers’ 27-10 Week 5 loss to the Washington Commanders., McConkey returned a punt for 57 yards and hurdled into the end zone. Unfortunately, the play was called back for roughing the punter, but it was still way too cool not to watch over and over on the replay.

McConkey finished the loss, hauling in five catches for 39 yards and the Chargers’ only touchdown of the night.

As he makes his way up the receiving depth chart with LA in Year 2, McConkey has hauled in 21 receptions on 34 targets for 213 yards and one touchdown through five games so far.

Ladd McConkey Gives Kirby Smart All of the Credit for the Easy Jump to the NFL

The Chargers selected McConkey with the 34th overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

It did not take long for McConkey to make an immediate impact during his rookie season in LA. He hauled in 82 receptions for 1,149 yards and seven touchdowns. His standout performance included breaking the Chargers’ rookie franchise record for most receptions and receiving yards in a single season, surpassing Keenan Allen’s previous record. In the Wild Card Round of the playoffs, McConkey also set an NFL record for most receiving yards by a rookie in a single postseason game, with nine receptions for 197 yards and a touchdown.

McConkey gave all of the credit to Georgia head coach Kirby Smart for making his transition to the NFL so easy.

“It’s definitely been a transition,” McConkey said in Week 8 of the 2024 NFL regular season. “You know, I wouldn’t say effortless but I feel like coach Smart and everybody at Georgia kind of prepared me for this. We practice hard at Georgia. We take game reps at practice so now it just transitioned over here and continuing that, but taking it to another level. That’s kind of what it is. There’s good days, there’s bad days that ya’ll don’t see. So yeah, just stacking days and then coming out and put it on the table on Sundays.”

McConkey’s next chance to do something with his speed will come next Sunday when the Chargers face the Miami Dolphins in Week 6.
