Former Georgia Bulldogs star David Pollack can spot talent, especially on the defensive front.
During a recent segment on his podcast, “See Ball Get Ball,” Pollack couldn’t help but rave about the high ceiling he already sees from incoming freshman Elijah Griffin.
“Enormous, 6-foot-5, you know, 300-plus pound kid, that’s an 18-year-old freshman, that continues to hit over 20 miles an hour every week on the GPS,” Pollack said.
Aside from Griffin’s God-given size and speed, Pollack sees a ton of future superstar potential in him. He even went so far as to compare him to Georgia legend Jalen Carter.
“I think he’s a guy that can come in and play a bunch of snaps and be really good,” Pollack said. “Now, he’s not going to go kill it. Jalen Carter-type good. Like Jalen Carter, when you saw him as a freshman, he was not refined. He wasn’t Jalen Carter as a junior.”
Carter posted 14 tackles during his first year with the Bulldogs. Considering Griffin is expected to help replace Jalon Walker and Mykel Williams’s production, he should get more opportunities to do more.
But regardless of what Griffin does in his first year, Georgia is in great hands with him moving forward, according to Pollack.
“That dude is a guy that you could play, and you go, ‘I’m not going to have a big drop off.’ And when he learns to use his hands and it all starts to work, you better watch the freak out,” Pollack said.
Griffin, from Pooler, Georgia, ranked as the nation’s No. 1 player at his position and the No. 4 overall prospect across all positions in the class of 2025, according to 247Sports. Heading into his senior year, Griffin had 46 scholarship offers from elite programs nationwide, including Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, and Oregon, but chose to play close to home.
