Georgia Bulldogs and Kirby Smart have major off field concern they need to take care of to secure future of the program

Georgia seriously might lose five star QB recruit Jared Curtis to Vanderbilt if Kirby Smart doesn’t do something quickly.

The Georgia Bulldogs have taken care of business on the field this season despite Kirby Smart having one of the most shallow, unproven, young rosters of players he’s had in his entire time as head coach in Athens. Following a cake walk of a victory over the lowly Charlotte 49ers on Saturday, Georgia is now 10-1 with only a game against Georgia Tech left to go before the postseason begins.

However, as much as the team has done well on the field, Kirby Smart and company need to take care of one major concern off the field if they want to secure the future of the program. Five star quarterback recruit Jared Curtis, the number one passer in the nation who has been committed to Georgia since May, might be having second thoughts about his commitment according to several sources around the recruiting industry.

Jared Curtis to flip from Georgia Bulldogs to Vanderbilt Commodores?

Jared Curtis is an elite talent from Nashville, Tennessee who has been considered a consensus five star quarterback recruit for multiple years now. He possesses an obvious rocket arm, decent mobility, and strong ability to read progressions, improvising well when things don’t go perfectly in front of him. Georgia has had him locked in and committed as the centerpiece of their 2026 recruiting class since May, but in recent weeks concerns have risen that suggest he may be flipping to Vanderbilt (yes, seriously) in the very near future.

First it was the visit to Vanderbilt at the end of October. Now it’s Tom Loy and Andrew Ivins of 247Sports, multiples sources from On3, and others who are all voicing at once that Curtis might be flipping to Vanderbilt over Georgia here soon. What an absolutely wild thing to try and even say out loud with a straight face, but this is college football in 2025.

The Georgia Bulldogs have largely been dominating on the recruiting trail overall as they currently sit with the third best team recruiting class in the nation (according to 247Sports and On3/Rivals). Kirby Smart and his excellent recruiting staff have 30 freshman commits for 2026 already. Unfortunately though, if they do lose Curtis to Vanderbilt they might start to shed more than just a quarterback.

Why would Curtis even consider a move like this? For starters, he’s from Nashville, so he could play his home games in a newly renovated Vanderbilt stadium in front of his hometown friends and family every fall. Second, Diego Pavia has proven that Clark Lea and Vanderbilt can get the most out of their starting quarterbacks. Pavia has thrown for over 1200 yards passing and 11 touchdowns while also adding three rushing touchdowns on the ground in his last three games alone for the Commodores. If Curtis can be developed, play in front of everyone he cares about, and actually win games playing for a rising program like Vanderbilt, that seriously sounds appealing.

This is by no means a done deal that he’s flipping from Georgia to Vanderbilt, but several sources close to the situation believe that it’s eventually going to happen unless something changes. If it does, that might present a major problem for Georgia at quarterback in the short term if Gunner Stockton goes off to the NFL after this season. Yes, the Bulldogs still have Ryan Puglisi and Ryan Montgomery (for now), but it would be nice to have a more surefire stud talent coming in to join them.
