The 2025 college football season was an extremely underwhelming one for head coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs. While they ended up winning the SEC Championship, last season was filled with a ton of inconsistency for the program. There were still elements of what makes the Bulldogs great, particularly a strong defensive line, but there were clear holes along the roster.
One of the biggest positions that had regression last season from the year prior, and not enough talk about it, was the offensive line. Everyone gravitated toward putting all the blame on quarterback Carson Beck. While he deserved his own criticism, he didn’t get much help up front, both in terms of pass protection, and generating a run game.
It appears there may be some hope heading into the 2025 college football season for the Bulldogs. In an intel piece that predicted breakout SEC stars for next season, 247Sports college football analyst Matt Zenitz included not one, but two Georgia offensive linemen on the list.
The first one was projected starting center Drew Bobo. Here is what Zenitz wrote.
DREW BOBO, GEORGIA C
There will be two members of the Bobo family factoring into the success of Georgia's offense this season — Mike as the Bulldogs' offensive coordinator and also now his son, Drew, as Georgia's starting center. It comes after the redshirt junior served as Jared Wilson's backup last season while also making starts in place of an injured Wilson against Auburn and Mississippi State.
“He's a lot better than people think," a source said of the 6-foot-5, 305-pound former three-star recruit. "Drew is going to have a chance to be an NFL center."
The last name Bobo is going to be vital for the offensive success at Georgia in 2025, both as a play caller and being a leader up front. He had the chance to learn from a really good one in Jared Wilson. The center is an incredibly important position, especially with a still inexperienced quarterback.
When you talk about the most important offensive line position, the only one more vital is left tackle. Last season Monroe Freeling was pressed into duty a ton with Ernest Greene banged up, and he struggled quite a bit.
Zenitz has also heard good things about Freeling.
MONROE FREELING, GEORGIA OT
Despite missing spring practice due to offseason shoulder surgery, Monroe Freeling remains Georgia's expected starter at left tackle. The 6-foot-7, 315-pound former top-35 recruit made four starts last season. Now, he's set to be a full-time starter and maybe one of the top offensive linemen in the SEC.
“If he has the year he is physically capable of having, could be an early out (to the NFL) and a high-round draft pick," a source said.
If Zenitz, and his sources are correct, Georgia has a chance to take a nice step forward in 2025. When this Bulldog team is good, they are dominant up front on both sides of the football. The offensive line is a unit that can make or break an inexperienced offense this season.
