Georgia Bulldogs recruiting had been on a hot streak until the middle of this past week when they finally missed out one major recruiting target. Jackson Cantwell–the top player in the 2026 recruiting class–opted to join Miami instead of Georgia on Wednesday. However, that bad news followed three important commits for Georgia in the preceding 12 days with five star quarterback Jared Curtis and two other critical pieces joining the Bulldogs.
Now Georgia is hosting one of the most important sets of elite recruits they'll see this entire year, hoping to add to their already impressive 2026 recruiting class. Which top players can they actually land this week as official visit season heats up? Let's dive in.
Georgia Recruiting Weekend Update
There are several critical recruiting targets that Georgia staff are hosting this week, but perhaps none more important five star linebacker Xavier Griffin. Griffin has been a consensus five star for over a year thanks to his multiple skill set and athleticism, but many thought he was already taken until this week. He just decommitted from USC Wednesday, so this is Georgia's perfect time to strike with an impactful visit.
It's crazy to realize, but Georgia is firmly in the mix to land potentially two five star linebackers for 2026 in Xavier Griffin and Tyler Atkinson. It helps that they're both already in-state talents, but Georgia's proven development at the position certainly doesn't hurt their chances. Glenn Schumann and Travaris Robinson both visited with Atkinson this week already. Now they host the tall, long, fast, versatile Griffin. If they miss on one of these two linebackers, landing another five star as a backup plan won't be bad at all.
Besides those two five stars Georgia is targeting another handful of key contributors at every level of their defense.
Khamari Brooks is trending towards becoming a Top 100 overall player in the nation as an edge defender–a position where Georgia desperately needs to restock talent. This weekend is the first of four major program official visits (will also see Alabama, Texas, USC). He's looking like a Georgia lean, so this last visit is crucial in sealing the deal.
Tyson Bacon is another player who just decommitted (from Tennessee) at defensive line. He's got a big enough frame to add weight and shift inside, but he may project as a do-it-all defensive end type. He's an underrated target for Georgia that may surprise as a commit for them in the coming weeks.
Outside of that a couple more linebackers are in town, but one's already committed to Auburn and the other is simply a backup plan if both Griffin and Atkinson surprisingly go elsewhere.
On offense, five star interior offensive lineman Darius Gray is the headliner this week. He's gotten plenty of experience at tackle, but given his frame and movement skills likely projects as more of a guard. This visit is probably a long shot last gasp effort with Gray given he's in the middle of nearly double-digit official visits. Same can be said of two-way WR/CB recruit Jalen Lott who is almost assuredly going to Oregon or USC.
Georgia could actually land one of their four star wide receiver targets soon in Ryan Mosley or Craig Dandridge. Receivers coach James Coley spent time with Craig Dandridge this week in person. Mosley will be in for the weekend and has already logged over a half dozen visits–he's the most likely to commit as soon as this weekend.
All in all, Georgia is hosting about a dozen blue chip recruits between Thursday and Sunday. If they can land just a few of these top names the Bulldogs will catapult their 2026 recruiting class back up into Top 5 status where they belong.
Let's hope Kirby Smart and his staff can close a few more of these guys soon so fans can rest easy as the season approaches.
