The Georgia Bulldogs could be in danger of missing one of their key starters on the offensive line when they face the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday night.
According to ESPN insider Pete Thamel, offensive tackle Earnest Greene III is listed as doubtful versus Bama.
Kirby Smart Comments on Latest Injuries
Greene is still battling a back injury that he suffered in Georgia’s season-opener against Marshall.
While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, head coach Kirby Smart noted that Greene, along with right tackle Juan Gaston (ankle), is doing everything they can to get back to full health.
“They’re working hard, you know, that’s all they can do right now is put their head down and grind and try to get better, continue to develop, and we’ll continue to do that with all those guys,” Smart said. “I mean, we got a lot of guys who get work right and left side. You’ve got to have guys that can swing and play both, and you know, there’s, there’s, there’s things you do to try to help guys. I mean, they do the same thing. We do the same thing. You’re constantly looking to try to find a niche for those guys to get better.”
Greene did play against the Tennessee Volunteers, though he couldn’t finish the game. Neither could Gaston. However, Gatson is not on Georgia’s injury report this week, which means he should be available.
Bo Hughley and Michael Uini both stepped in to fill Greene’s place during the Dawgs’ 44-41 win over Tennessee. It’s likely Georgia keeps the same game plan on Saturday.
Smart did mention that running back Dwight Phillips Jr. shouldn’t have any limitations after he exited the Vols’ win early with a foot injury.
“He seems to be fine. Playing special teams, do things well,” Smart said. He’s really had no limitations.”
Georgia (3-0) kicks off against the Crimson Tide (2-1) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
