Georgia Bulldogs stunned Texas Longhorns as unsung hero comes up huge again for Kirby Smart in dominant SEC victory
Noah Thomas snags two more touchdowns, extending his streak to three games for the Georgia Bulldogs as he keeps making huge plays when it matters most.
The Georgia Bulldogs did it again this week. They played four consecutive dominant quarters of football and ran away with an impressive 35-10 victory over the Texas Longhorns.
While Kirby Smart will get his rightful flowers for stealing a possession with the onside kick and Gunner Stockton will get plenty of credit for his five total touchdowns, one unsung hero deserves a ton of credit himself. Once again, when it mattered most, Noah Thomas came up with not one, but two touchdowns in Saturday’s victory over Texas.
Noah Thomas’ hot streak for Georgia Bulldogs
- Noah Thomas has now grabbed a touchdown in three consecutive games for the Georgia Bulldogs
- Prior to November Noah Thomas had just four catches on the entire season
- Since the start of November Thomas has eight catches for 132 yards and four touchdowns
Noah Thomas comes up big time for Georgia Bulldogs again
Noah Thomas had received plenty of vocal praise from Kirby Smart throughout the offseason as someone who had picked up the system quickly and had been working hard, but none of that hard work had translated to on-field success for much of the year. Then Thomas made a phenomenal 30-yard grab against Auburn, which sparked some initial interest from fans and media. And then again against Florida he grabbed another reception, his first for a touchdown on the year. Then last week against Mississippi State he completely broke out with a handful of catches and another score.
It was clear that Noah Thomas had finally earned an expanded role on Georgia’s offense following his 78-yard performance against Mississippi State, but his game against Texas really sealed the deal. Texas jumped out to an early lead and the Bulldogs needed to answer with a statement of their own. Sure enough, Noah Thomas scored on a 17-yard touchdown. Then on the very next drive, Thomas burned a Texas DB on a whip route for yet another touchdown (tough to do at his size).
Thomas now has eight catches for 132 yards and four touchdowns in the last three games alone after managing only four total catches for 54 yards through the team’s first seven games this season. It’s likely no coincidence that Thomas’ ascension in the offense coincides with Georgia’ complete an utter dominance over the last two weeks.
Having a 6’5″, 210-pound monster of a wide receiver with deep speed and flexibility sufficient enough to win in the short-area routes as well gives Georgia something that’s extremely tough to defend on the perimeter. When teams don’t account for that size and length, Thomas makes them pay. When defenses adjust, the running game opens up.
There are plenty of weapons on the Georgia offense that opposing defenses have to plan for already, but with Thomas now breaking out alongside London Humphries, Zachariah Branch, and the star tight ends, the Bulldogs now have an extremely complete offense. This isn’t likely the last time that Thomas plays a huge role in claiming victory for Georgia this season.
