Georgia football will no longer open their 2025 season against UCLA in Pasadena, instead, they're paying Marshall a hefty sum to come to Athens.

According to Athens Banner-Herald's Marc Weiszer, the Bulldogs are forking over $1.7 million to host the Thundering Herd at Stanford Stadium on Aug. 30.

While that may seem like a lot, it's still a little bit less than the $1.9 million that Georgia will pay UMass in 2024 and Charlotte in 2026 to come and play between the hedges.

The Bulldogs last played Marshall in 2004 at home.

Georgia beat the Herd 13-3. Then Bulldogs quarterback David Greene completed 17 of 20 passes for 209 yards and no touchdowns.

Marshall hasn't been very dominant in football but they are a team that loves to show up in big spotlight games like this one, just like they did in 2022 when they upset Notre Dame in South Bend, beating the Fighting Irish 26-21. They also came close to taking down NC State last season, losing 48-41.

In addition to the $1.7 million, the Thundering Herd will receive 1,000 tickets to sell at ticket prices established by Georgia Athletics and another 600 complimentary tickets.

The Georgia vs. UCLA home game scheduled in 2026 has also been canceled.
