Kirby Smart always makes sure to prioritize recruiting with every single chance he gets. That includes key bye week visits to top tier recruits around the nation. Friday Kirby Smart didn't have to go far to visit one elite recruit Georgia is hoping to pull their way here soon.

Smart took yet another special visit to see elite five star linebacker Tyler Atkinson who plays his football in Logansville, Georgia. Atkinson is a top ten consensus player in the 2026 recruiting class who continues to impress, rising near the very top of boards across all the major recruiting services.

For those unfamiliar, Logansville isn't too far from Athens, GA. There was no need to take a plane for this visit. In fact there was hardly a need for a car as only 35 miles separates the two towns. But instead of just driving to the game, Coach Smart decided to arrive in style via helicopter for Atkinson's game against South Gwinnett, landing within about 100 yards of the football field.

Atkinson played well on Friday in front of his potential future college football head coach Kirby Smart, finding his way into the backfield on multiple occasions.

The young stud linebacker has nearly 50 scholarship offers from all the top programs around the country. Why? Through his first two seasons of high school football Atkinson tallied over 300 total tackles, including nearly 20 sacks of opposing quarterbacks. He's already averaging about 10 tackles per game again this fall and isn't showing any signs of slowing down.

Atkinson is considering Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, Tennessee, and still has several tentative unofficial visits on the horizon to schools like Texas A&M and Miami. It's still early in his recruitment given he won't be a freshman until 2026, but Georgia is certainly one of the leading program's for Atkinson's services. And it definitely doesn't hurt to get a visit from Coach Smart via helicopter.

Hopefully Georgia gets some more definitive and confirmed progress towards recruiting him here in the coming weeks following his 10th (at least) unofficial visit with Kirby Smart and his coaching staff.
