The Georgia Bulldogs could be on tap for a huge boost when they take on the Florida Gators after their bye.
Head coach Kirby Smart told reporters this week that starting right guard Tate Rutledge, who had tightrope surgery following the Kentucky game, is fighting hard to make his way back.
"Yeah, I've seen a lot of hard work. I mean, he could be one of the toughest players I've ever been around. You don't question his toughness. He had a very significant tight rope injury. I mean, to the point, it was more significant than Brock's [Bowers], and he is fighting his way back."
Ratledge was considered a game-time decision heading into Texas and ultimately did dress as an emergency backup, according to Smart. But the Bulldogs did not end up needing him.
"I mean, he wasn't ready to play, but he was an emergency guy that could have gone in the game if he needed to, Smart said. "We're hopeful he keeps getting better. I know it's not going to be because he doesn't work hard."
Micah Morris and Monroe Freeling have stepped up in his absence and have done a decent job in the meantime, though it's hard to completely replicate what Ratledge brings to the offensive line.
Additionally, Smart noted that starting linebacker Smael Mondon, who has missed the last three games with a foot injury, has been practicing with the rest of the team.
However, Smart could not give a clear timeline for his return.
"Yeah, we're hoping to get Smael back," Smart said. "Can't wait to get him back. Hopefully, it'll be soon. He's out there with us right now, and I don't know when it'll be."
So far this season, Mondon has racked up 17 tackles, including four for a loss, and half a sack for the Bulldogs through four games.
While Mondon might not be quite as ready to take the field as Rateledge could be, having at least one key veteran back in Georgia's lineup makes all the difference.
