The Georgia Bulldogs walked out of Jordan-Hare Stadium victorious on Saturday night after beating the Auburn Tigers, 20-10.

It was an ugly win for the Dawgs, but what quarterback Gunner Stockton did to seal the victory made it beautiful.

After Georgia’s defense forced Auburn’s third straight three-and-out, Stockton capped off a 16-play, 78-yard drive with a 10-yard rushing touchdown in the final quarter to secure the victory. And en route to hitting the pylon, Stockton did his best Superman impression to honor the Tigers’ legendary quarterback, Cam Newton, whose jersey was retired on Saturday night.

Stockton and the Rest of His Georgia Teammates Made This Win Extra Special for Kirby Smart

It was a tale of two halves, but Stockton completed 24 of 37 passes for 217 yards in the victory. After falling behind before halftime, Stockton really came to life in the fourth and final quarter, where he tossed 9 of 11 passes for 81 yards and ran three times for 21 yards and a score.

While it wasn’t perfect, Stockton made head coach Kirby Smart proud.

“He’s got composure,” Smart said. “It’s never been an issue. Composure is my issue, not his He’s got great composure. He’s got poise in the pocket. He’s tough. He takes hits. None of that surprised me because he’s got it, right? We have to play more effectively in the first half.”

The win overall meant a ton to Smart, who shared a special moment with his son Andrew before the morning of the game.

“This one was special for me because my dad, I took Andrew today to a little small town called Hopewell, Alabama, where they built a baseball field with my dad’s name on it. And they wanted to take me over there with a trooper and an escort. I said, ‘Nope, I’m just taking me and Andrew. We’re gonna go look at my dad’s field, named after him, and where I was born.’

“A trailer behind a high school with two teachers who didn’t have anything coming out of college, and we loved it. And to go back and see that field where he was. And, you know, I mean, I grew up coming to Auburn. So this place has always been very unique to me. … But I’m proud of those guys in the room. It was emotional for me because of my father being from here, and a lot of his family went to Auburn, and just proud of our staff.”
