Georgia Bulldogs’ running backs come in clutch in thrilling OT win over Tennessee Volunteers at Neyland Stadium
Georgia looks good on you, Josh McCray!
Former Illinois transfer running back Josh McCray just made Georgia Bulldogs fans love him!
The No. 6 Bulldogs were pushed into overtime against the N0.15 Tennessee Volunteers at Neyland Stadium after kicker Max Gilbert missed a 43-yard field goal in the final seconds of regulation.
In overtime, Georgia held the Vols to another field goal (this one 42 yards out), which Gilbert didn’t miss, making the score 41-38.
The Bulldogs took over with running back Nate Frazier carrying he ball 21 yards to put Georgia in scoring position. That led to McCray punching it in the endzone for a one-yard touchdown upon review.
Georgia won 44-41.
McCray finished the night carrying the ball seven times for 17 yards and two scores, while Frazier had 14 carries for 73 yards.
Following the win, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart had some high praise for McCray.
“Big man. He was a difference maker,” Smart said of McCray. “We thought our advantage was our conditioning. We felt like we were a better-conditioned team. And I really thought that after the first drive of the second half, all right, here we go. We’re getting ready to rock and roll and trot them. But they bowed their neck. They’re a playoff football team, and they stopped the run some and forced us to do different things. But McCray was great today. He was really instrumental. I told him a number of times, I said, ‘Guys, let’s get this big guy going.’”
“And, of course, Nate had the big run, and then he came in and finished it off. He’s a great complement to what we have.”
It’s the ninth victory in a row against Tennessee for Georgia. They will now enter their Bye Week undefeated before returning to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide at home, ‘Between the Hedges.’
