The Georgia Bulldogs might have suffered a significant loss to Ole Miss last Saturday, but Kirby Smart clearly hasn't lost his laser focus on finding the next win. And this time he's set his sights on winning a battle off the field in hopes to set Georgia up with a bright future.
Smart is targeting a potential flip of elite five star quarterback recruit Julian Lewis who plays his high school football in Carrollton, Georgia. Julian Lewis has been committed to USC for over a year now and has repeatedly suggested he firmly intends to play for Lincoln Riley. However, recent reporting from multiple sources has suggested that sentiment is definitely changing.
Just this week there were multiple reports that Deion Sanders and Colorado might be flipping him here soon. Not so fast. Georgia is set to host Lewis now too, and they've been chasing after him for years.
Julian "JuJu" Lewis has been widely considered an elite four star or five star quarterback recruit for about three years now, continually dominating his high school competition and recruiting circuit events. Whoever lands Lewis will likely get a player worthy of starting immediately in any conference of college football.
Lewis took official visits this summer to Indiana, USC, Auburn, and Colorado, so many believed that Georgia might be trailing by a decent margin in this recruiting battle. He did visit the Bulldogs once back in early February, but things had fallen rather silent with Georgia and Lewis for some time.
However, now that the season has fallen apart for USC with Georgia continuing to push towards yet another College Football Playoff if they take care of business over the next few weeks, it seems flipping Lewis will be firmly back in play.
Georgia still has dual-threat quarterback Gunner Stockton, Jaden Rashada, and Ryan Puglisi in their QB room. All three could be the potential starter next year. But if the Bulldogs can get a real elite five star talent at quarterback that could be a game changer.
Hopefully Georgia and Kirby Smart take down the Tennessee Vols this weekend so they keep making a good impression on this elite five star talent in Lewis. If they can't take down the Vols, the Bulldogs are likely out of the playoff race, opening the door even further for Deion Sanders to steal their number one target on the recruiting trail.
