Kirby Smart and Georgia Bulldogs closing in on huge win off the field ahead of Georgia Tech rivalry and College Football Playoff
Kirby Smart looking set to close on five star running back recruit Kemon Spell as Georgia Bulldogs near postseason action
The Georgia Bulldogs have every major 2025 college football season goal still available to them as they enter rivalry week. Yes, the Georgia Tech game could set up a trip to the SEC Championship Game, lock in a home playoff game, and set up what could be an incredible College Football Playoff run for Georgia, but Kirby Smart and company are also closing in on a win that could be huge off the field this week too.
The number one running back in the country is up for grabs now that he’s decommitted from Penn State. Kemon Spell revealed his top schools recently, and it looks like the Georgia Bulldogs might be in the lead to land him following a visit to Athens.
Georgia Bulldogs looking set to land five star running back Kemon Spell
Kemon Spell has been considered by many as the top running back in the 2027 recruiting class for multiple years now. He was locked in with Penn State for quite some time, but after James Franklin’s firing and consistent embarrassing failures in big games, he decided to go in another direction. Now that direction looks like it might be Athens, Georgia.
The number one running back recruit visited with Georgia over the weekend, and following an absolute slaughtering of Charlotte where the Bulldogs showcased the ridiculous depth and development of the running back position, Spell has obviously moved Kirby Smart and company into prime position to land him.
There’s still plenty of time for other schools to make a move, including top tier programs like Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC, Tennessee, Michigan, Miami, and Florida State (all pushing for him still), but it seems Georgia may have the edge here (as On3/Rivals and other industry sources confirm).
The Georgia Bulldogs don’t currently look like they have a huge need at the running back position as Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens both look dominant this year, but those talents could and should be gone by the time Spell potentially lands in Athens. It’s been a while since the Georgia Bulldogs have had a true possible every down feature running back type that fits the mold of a D’Andre Swift or Todd Gurley level player, but that’s the kind of potential Spell possesses. Bulldogs fans just need to hope Kirby Smart actually closes the deal here soon, and a strong postseason performance in the College Football Playoff would certainly help.
