In 17 seasons with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Nick Saban built one of the greatest dynasties in college football, winning nine SEC championship titles and six national championships.
But now that Saban officially retired in January, there's a chance another team will take over college football, ultimately surpassing Alabama as the greatest college football team of all time.
Paul Finebaum, "the voice of the SEC," believes Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs is on their way.
"Nobody is ever going to completely take Alabama's place, but Georgia is as close to Alabama today as anyone," Finebaum said, via The Paul Finebaum Show.
Kirby Smart is the Next Nick Saban
Smart, who was once under Saban's staff at Alabama, has turned the Georgia football program around since he was named head coach in December 2015.
Over the last eight seasons, Smart has led the Bulldogs to back-to-back college football championship wins, seven straight New Year's Six Bowls, two SEC championships, and six SEC Eastern Division titles for an overall 94-16 record in 110 games. Additionally, Georgia has not lost more than two games in a season since 2018.
Smart has also produced three straight top recruiting classes and 63 NFL draft picks — the most of any coach in college football history.
The hope is that Georgia will only continue to dominate in 2024.
But Finebaum sees it happening, predicting Georgia is undefeated but the time Week 8 rolls around when they take on the Texas Longhorns in Austin.
However, he also predicts Texas is unbeatable too.
"I think that game (Georgia vs. Texas) very likely will be between two undefeated teams," Finebaum said. "There are a handful of games that right now look like the biggest games of the year.”
If there's anyone who can "get 'er done" and continue to be a force to be reckoned with, it's Smart and the Bulldogs.
