The Georgia Bulldogs are headed to their fourth straight SEC Championship in Atlanta where they will face the Texas Longhorns for the second time this year after already beating them in Week 8 of the regular season, 30-15.
Ahead of the "rematch" in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian handed Kirby Smart's Bulldogs the ultimate compliment.
"This is a real compliment, this isn’t to intimidate our players, but Georgia’s got the heart of a champion," Sarkisian told reporters on Monday.
Georgia finished their regular season 10-2 after taking down the Georiga Tech Yellow Jackets in eight overtimes.
While that marked the longest fight of Georgia's this year, it's not the first time that the Bulldogs game up with a win late in one of their games. Even in their two losses against Alabama and Ole Miss, Georgia still showed just how much grit they had by never giving up.
Sarkisian also said ahead of the conference championship that Smart has set the standard of what college football is all about since he became head coach back in 2016.
"It's a heck of a challenge," Sarkisian said of facing Georgia for the second time this season. "What Kirby's done at Georgia over nine years now has been pretty incredible. They've become the standard of college football. A couple of national championships, a couple of SEC titles. What they've just done on a consistent basis in recruiting, [and] their style of play. So a ton of respect for what they've done at Georgia. And obviously, this will be a heck of a challenge for us going to Atlanta, competing against them."
Having to take on Texas again isn't going to be easy for Georgia either, but it will certainly help that they only have to travel down the road to play them this time.
