It comes down to this. Georgia, Florida, and potential wild card program South Carolina are all battling for the same top quarterback recruit who is set to announce his commitment tomorrow. Ryan Montgomery, of Findlay High School in Findlay, Ohio still be committing Wednesday, April 17th after a long, tough recruiting battle between some of the top college football programs in the country.
Montgomery has been a highly sought after football recruit for multiple years now, garnering nearly 30 FBS scholarship offers. He's widely considered a Top 15 QB in the 2025 recruiting class, and continues to rise ever since he broke school records set by Ben Roethlisberger last fall. His 491-yard performance where he tossed six touchdowns sparked even greater interest from several top college football programs around the country.
According to On3 Sports Ryan Montgomery's recruiting commitment is primarily down to three schools, but there certainly a couple wild cards in the mix. Let's dive into those potential landing spots with less than a day to go before he reveals his future college football home.
Georgia the Favorite to Land Montgomery
Kirby Smart and Georgia also looked like they were leading for Matt Zollers just a few short weeks ago. So, it's never a lock. However, since the Bulldogs missed out on Zollers, Montgomery has quickly become the number one target for them. And according to Steve Wiltfong of On3 Sports the feeling sounds mutual:
"[Montgomery's] last visit, he had a lot of time to talk film study and get on the board with [offensive coordinator, Mike] Bobo and assistant quarterbacks coach Montgomery VanGorder, and that blew him away. And then certainly what Georgia has done to develop guys like Stetson Bennett, and now Carson Beck, and the way they put guys around their quarterback, the stage they play on…All of that exciting to Ryan Montgomery as well."
Montgomery has already logged more than a half dozen unofficial visits with the Bulldogs and has another visit scheduled for the summer. Things definitely look promising for Georgia here. But! There are also a few other programs firmly in the mix.
Other Programs in Mix for Montgomery
If it isn't Georgia, then Florida certainly looks like a promising fit. He's visited them multiple times this spring, reportedly loves the staff and his projected fit in the scheme there. However, with DJ Lagway there ahead of him he would be hard pressed to see the field any time soon, and Napier's staff is a half season from the hot seat. Given his noted desire for stability in prior comments Florida might not be the perfect spot.
South Carolina has perhaps the best recruiting angle advantage with Dowell Loggains and Shane Beamer making it clear to him that Montgomery was their number one priority in this recruiting cycle. That angle worked in the Matt Zollers recruitment here recently, which cost Georgia and Alabama. We'll see if that strategy pans out for Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks.
So, will it be Georgia? Florida? Or South Carolina? We'll find out soon enough.
