The Georgia Bulldogs might be getting a big boost to their defensive line when they take on the Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend in Tuscaloosa.
Head coach Kirby Smart told reporters on Monday that he's "hopeful" defensive end Mykel Williams (ankle) will be ready to go by Saturday.
"I'm hopeful. We'll see," Smart said. "He didn't do much last week. He got a lot of rehab Friday and Sunday and was able to run and do some things Friday and Sunday. We'll see how today goes."
Williams has been sidelined the last two games with an ankle injury that he suffered in Week 1's win over the Clemson Tigers. While Williams' absence has been felt, backup Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins has been doing a nice job stepping up in his place.
"His work ethic," Smart said of what stands out about Ingram-Dawkins over the by week. "He's done a great job. He talked to the team today about where he was in terms of his mental space when he was a young player and obviously thought he should be playing more. It's funny because he's matured so much from the time he was like, I should be starting, I should be playing, to realizing that he wasn't ready and that he needed to get better. And unfortunately, he didn't get to play a lot last year because of injury, but he has been able to play a lot this year, and he's doing a really good job."
In addition to Williams, Smart was optimistic about the forward progress and return of defensive linemen Warren Brinson (ankle) and Jordan Hall (leg), though it might not be this week.
Smart said Brinson practiced last week and Hall has been working "tirelessly" in rehab.
Running back Roderick Robinson remains out following toe surgery while right guard Tate Ratledge has started his journey to recovery after undergoing Tightrope surgery last week.
We'll get a better idea of Williams and the others after Wednesday's practice.
Georgia Bulldogs’ bye week is ‘very dangerous’ for the rest of college football
