Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti flips a major criticism about his program back around on the entire SEC
Indiana's football program found itself in the headlines last week after it chose to cancel its upcoming non-conference series with ACC opponent Virginia. The "Indiana doesn't play anyone crowd" from last season came out of the woods in full force to shout their criticisms of this decision. Many called this choice "weak" by Indiana, as their non-conference slate over the next few years lacks a single Power Five opponent.
With this news still fresh on everyone's mind, I'm sure Cignetti knew questions were coming about why Indiana chose to do this. And he approaches the questions and criticisms in a way people should have expected, with a bit of sarcasm.

SEC teams like Alabama and South Carolina were left out of the field, and many in the college football community had their fair share of opinions. The SEC looked at teams like Indiana and SMU getting in over Alabama and South Carolina as some crime against football. The shots taken at Indiana included the old popular "but they didn't play anyone." In their minds, this should cancel out the number of losses SEC teams have against each other. Those debates have created some disdain towards Cignetti and Indiana among the SEC and its fans. And this shot at their scheduling philosophy will only add to it, I'm sure. Love him or hate him, you have to admit Cignetti has a way of putting this Indiana team in the headlines, whether that was through leading them to the best season in the program's history or by commanding a crowd with some legendary one-liners on a microphone.
