One of the LSU Tigers' top 2025 recruiting targets has reportedly moved up his commitment date.
2025 four-star edge rusher Damien Shanklin originally planned to announce his commitment on September 21.
Shanklin, however, tweeted on Thursday that he now plans to announce his commitment on August 29.
Shanklin, 6-foot-4/230 lbs from Indianapolis, IN, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 5 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Indiana. He's also rated as the No. 48 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.
The Indiana native recently took his official visit to LSU, which he said went "amazing".
"Everything was great about the visit," said Shanklin to On3. "Nothing but positive energy.”
On3's Steve Wiltfong predicted earlier this week that Shanklin will commit to LSU.
Shanklin has upcoming official visits scheduled for Ohio State, Tennessee, and Alabama.
It's always possible that one of those schools could knock Shanklin's official visit out of the park and make a big move in this recruiting battle. But for now, it looks like LSU is very much the team to beat for the four-star recruit.
