The NFL is one of the most competitive scenes in all of professional sports. In Week 16 action, New Orleans Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu and Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels shared a cool moment during the game.
Both are products of the LSU Tigers and fan favorites for that fan base. Now, they're both making an impact in the pros. Plenty of LSU fans have followed them closely since they were selected in the NFL Draft.
Tyrann Mathieu and Jayden Daniels
The two former LSU studs met up during a review on the field. They were in good sprits and looked like they were best of friends during a moment of competition.
Mathieu discussed Daniels' talent and work ethic before the Week 15 matchup, too. He gleamed regarding the young quarterback, and the Commanders QB proved him right against New Orleans last weekend.
“I’m a huge fan of him…i’ve heard a lot of great stories about him, you know first guy in, last guy to leave. Just a solid young man that was raised right and you know obviously he’s a damn good athlete too”.
Against New Orleans, Daniels completed 26 of 31 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns. He also led the team in rushing with 66 yards. As for Mathieu against Washington, he totaled six tackles and forced a fumble.
Both are key cogs for their squads in the NFL now, but they started their gridiron domination in college as Tigers. Daniels had one of the best college seasons for a QB ever in 2023 as the Tigers' signal-caller. He won the Heisman Trophy, deservedly.
Mathieu is regarded as one of the best CFB safeties of this generation. His 2011 season at LSU was a special one, where he won the Chuck Bednarik Award and SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
Both still remember their legendary roots in college, and it was an intriguing spectacle to see them sharing a cool moment on Sunday as opponents, playing in New Orleans.
