LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin ended 2025 by angering another SEC head coach.

Last month, news broke that LSU was set to hire South Carolina defensive line coach Sterling Lucas.

When that report surfaced, I immediately suggested that it would ruffle the feathers of Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer.

It didn’t take long for that prediction to become a reality.

Shane Beamer throws shade at Lane Kiffin for swiping assistant coach

Beamer introduced new defensive line coach Deion Barnes on Friday and he took a moment to throw some shade at Kiffin for not letting him know that LSU was interesting in speaking to Lucas.

“It happened fast as you guys know,” said Beamer of losing Lucas to LSU. “I got a call on a Thursday night after 11 PM from the previous (defensive line) coach that was here telling me that he had been offered a job at another school. And by 9 AM the next morning he was gone.

“A little bit unusual. Usually, you get a phone call from the head coach of the school kind of giving you a heads up that he’s interested in maybe talking to one of your coaches, or things like that. That didn’t happen, which, again, there’s no rule that that has to happen. But you know, it’s kind of an unspoken rule. So we didn’t hear anything from the other school. Didn’t hear anything from the previous coach until he called to tell me that he had been offered a job. So it wasn’t a very thorough interview process where you have a few days to kind of plan and think this might be coming down the track.”

Beamer is never afraid to get a little spicy, so it’s not a surprise that he had some words for Kiffin.

And Kiffin, by the way, may want to watch out. Beamer, after all, once said on the Bussin with the Boys podcast that there are a couple of SEC head coaches that he wouldn’t mind fighting.

LSU and South Carolina, unfortunately, aren’t scheduled to play each other in 2026 — unless they both make it to the SEC Championship game or meet in the College Football Playoff.
