The LSU Tigers are making strides during the current NCAA Transfer Portal window. Should that surprise a soul under new head coach Lane Kiffin? No way. Kiffin is known for his prowess in the portal, and he’s proving it once again.

The latest addition for the Tigers offense in the portal is the biggest they’ll make, and it is one of the most impactful moves in all of college football this offseason.

Lane Kiffin lands his QB for 2026 in top transfer Sam Leavitt

According to reports, Sam Leavitt has committed to LSU. Lane Kiffin has his quarterback, and this is a major domino for the transfer portal. Via 247Sports, Leavitt was ranked as the top QB in the portal, regardless of availability. He was one of only three “5-star” transfer quarterbacks.

Leavitt helped lead Arizona State to the College Football Playoff in 2024 and has totaled 4,652 passing yards and 36 touchdowns in his college career so far. He visited Kentucky, Tennessee, and Miami along with LSU before this commitment.

Ryan Roberts was first on the expected commitment from Leavitt, as the two sides were closing in on an agreement as of this past Saturday.

“According to multiple sources, LSU’s confidence to sign the former Arizona State signal caller, Sam Leavitt, is growing exponentially. Leavitt visited Baton Rouge this week, but things didn’t end well once the news broke that Williams Jr. was eyeing the portal and LSU appeared to be the main contender.” — Ryan Roberts, A to Z Sports

Leavitt is a dual threat athlete at QB who provides a ton of upside for both the passing and rushing game for Kiffin’s offense next season. The Tigers want to return to where their expectations lie, and that is in meaningful postseason play. The College Football Playoff should be a realistic goal, even in Kiffin’s first campaign in Baton Rouge.

With Leavitt in the fold, they, at minimum, have a QB gleaming with potential in a system that should play to his strengths. Let’s see how it unfolds for the Bayou Bengals.
