Miami Hurricanes’ star defender Keionte Scott tops list by national outlet that confirms the terrific season he’s had
The Canes’ star cornerback has proven to be a gem from the transfer portal.
The Miami Hurricanes found a gem this offseason when they secured CB Keionte Scott in the transfer portal to boost a beleaguered secondary from 2024. The former Auburn Tiger has been undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best, transfer portal pickups this year.
And, according to one outlet, he might just be the best player at his position in the entire country. Pro Football Focus has Scott graded as the top cornerback in the entire country with a sterling 90.5 defensive grade.
Pro Football Focus has Miami CB Keionte Scott as their top-graded cornerback
Scott’s pass defense has been crucial for the Hurricanes this season. He has been targeted the most this season, per PFF, with 37 targets. He’s allowed 24 catches for 194 yards, but he hasn’t allowed a touchdown, and he has 4 passes defended, which leads the team, along with an interception. He’s also been impactful from the edge in blitz packages, where he’s added 14 pressures and three sacks.
Last week, Scott helped turned the game around late in the first half for the Hurricanes against Syracuse. He intercepted a pass from Cuse QB Rickie Collins inside the final two minutes and raced to the end zone for a 14-0 lead. Miami went on to win 38-10.
Scott was recently named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, given annual to the nation’s top defensive back, and the numbers show that it’s a deserving nomination. If he continues this level of play, he should be in play to become the first Miami Hurricane since Bennie Blades in 1987 to take home the prestigious honor.
