Michigan and Sherrone Moore had a huge opportunity to make the right move at quarterback coming out of their third loss of the season against Illinois last week. Unfortunately, it looks like they blew it, making a massive mistake before their rivalry game against Michigan State even begins.
Did they choose to put Jack Tuttle back on the bench? Yes. That was the right call. That got them halfway there to the obvious decision to make at quarterback. Sadly, Coach Moore couldn't get all the way there in making the right decision with his quarterback room.
On Friday it was reported that Davis Warren will be starting at quarterback for Michigan once again this Saturday against Michigan State. Yes, the same Davis Warren that we just saw throw two touchdowns to six interceptions in three games earlier this season.
Davis Warren was quite literally the absolute worst quarterback in all of college football for the three-game span that he played according to most every meaningful metric. Why on earth does Sherrone Moore and his staff think it's going to be any different now against tough Big Ten conference opponents?
The obviously correct choice was to go ahead and finally roll out Jadyn Davis, the high pedigree four star true freshman quarterback. However, there was one hiccup, or at least a rumor of one that had been circulating as to why Davis was potentially not in play to start at all this year.
The rumor was the Jadyn Davis' parents had actually formed an agreement with Sherrone Moore and Michigan that their son would not be starting this season, preserving his eligibility for future years. When asked about it this week, Moore did not confirm or deny the rumor, just saying that he likes to keep discussions like that between parties involved.
Even if there is validity to that claim, Jadyn Davis could easily just play in four (or fewer) games at this point and still redshirt the year, preserving his eligibility. Why not go ahead and give the freshman a shot now? Especially against an opponent like Michigan State where he would have a legitimate shot at winning?
Michigan State ranks outside the Top 50 in yards per offensive play allowed, sacks per game, yards per pass attempt allowed, and third down conversion rate. This would be the perfect weaker Big Ten opponent to roll out a true freshman against, even if it is a rivalry.
Now that Michigan is wasting everyone's time with Davis Warren again, the Wolverines have just one more "soft" game remaining on the schedule to potentially put Jadyn Davis in (against Northwestern on November 23rd). They still have to play Oregon, Indiana, and Ohio State. All three are top 15 teams in the nation.
It's just absolutely wild that Michigan is refusing to build towards the future, giving critical reps to a true freshman who could learn from in-game action this weekend against Michigan State. Instead Michigan fans just get more of the same terrible play from a quarterback who won't be the face of the future. Hooray.
Michigan Wolverines hosting several coveted recruits and potential flips this weekend against Michigan State
Seeking to build off of their momentum from the commitment of five-star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola earlier this week, the Michigan Wolverines are playing host to several top recruits this weekend as they take on rival Michigan State Spartans. The Wolverines are hosting a slew of recruits across their 2025 and 2026 classes as they […]
