The Michigan Wolverines have their next head coach in place in former Utah Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham. Whittingham will replace Sherrone Moore at the helm of the program for the foreseeable future.

The hire of Whittingham has been met with universal praise from across the college football world, as Whittingham is one of the winningest head coaches in college football history. One of the winningest coaches in NFL history had plenty to say about Whittingham as well, and it’s one that should have Michigan fans confident in their future.

Andy Reid dishes on Kyle Whittingham

On Wednesday, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was asked about Kyle Whittingham taking over at Michigan. Reid and Whittingham used to be teammates at BYU together in the late 70s, and there is a lot of mutual respect between both coaches. Reid was asked if he had spoken to Whittingham about the Michigan job.

“Yeah, I have. I think it’s great for the university. I think it’s great move for him,” Reid said. “That’s a win, win for both sides. I knew he wanted to still coach, and he’s going to do phenomenal up there. Just got to switch colors. He’s got to get used to wearing that blue again.”

Whittingham has already hit the ground running with player retention and building out his staff, but it is nice to hear how well-received the hire is virtually across the football landscape. After the disaster of the Sherrone Moore saga and how quickly the search process fell apart, optimism around the program had plummeted.

Just a few days after being announced, however, Whittingham has injected the Wolverines with Weapon-X grade energy and has re-ignited hopes among fans after a dismal end to the 2025 season. It’s still very early on in the process, but Michigan fans have to be loving how Whittingham has brought such a strong feeling of goodwill around the program already.
