Sherrone Moore investing in QB recruiting during Michigan Wolverines bye week after failing to flip five star

It's no secret that Michigan's quarterback situation has been the laughing stock of the 2024 college football season. First it was Davis Warren, then Alex Orji, then Jack Tuttle, and then back to Davis Warren. After all that change Michigan still ranks outside the top 100 among FBS schools in pass success rate. Sherrone Moore knows the pass game has been terrible. Everyone does.
So, what has Michigan been doing about it? They've been pushing hard on the recruiting trail to completely revamp their quarterback room. And Sherrone Moore is at it again this weekend.
Most fans know there's been all-in effort trying to flip the number one quarterback in the nation, Bryce Underwood. Well, just like we talked about here last week, there was very little evidence to suggest Bryce Underwood was ever going to flip from LSU. And as of this week, Underwood shared "#1 QB likely to decline Michigan's $10.5 million NIL offer" on his Instagram:
Now that Bryce Underwood has all but confirmed he will not be choosing Michigan, Sherrone Moore and offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell aren't waiting around. They're taking full advantage of their bye week to secure their quarterback future.
They already have high four star quarterback Brady Hart committed for the 2026 recruiting class, but both Moore and Campbell took a special visit to go see him play in Florida on Friday night.
After losing out on a five star for next year the worst thing that could happen is they lose their next best future option in Brady Hart. Hart committed to Michigan this summer, choosing the Wolverines over schools like Ohio State, Clemson, Oregon, and other top tier programs.
Moore and Campbell are still pursuing other 2025 options, including a number of possible transfers via a variety of reports, but obviously Hart is a huge piece they're making first priority to keep right now.
If fans are looking for a more short-term fix to the quarterback situation our sources and intel here at A to Z Sports suggests several strong transfer options are potentially coming into play as the official Transfer Portal window is approaching. Our very own Ryan Roberts gave us a deep list of key names to watch that might be up for grabs for Michigan (and other programs) in the very near future.
Yes, Miller Moss (from USC) seems to be the top name, but look for Coach Moore and company to look at a few other key names. Intel suggests Sawyer Robertson from Baylor, Luke Altmyer from Illinois, and Billy Edwards Jr. from Maryland could all be on the move soon. All three would likely be immediate upgrades for Michigan.
Keep a close eye on Darian Mensah from Tulane as well though. He might return to Tulane, but there's going to be significant interest (and reportedly already is) from many top schools. He's arguably been the top Group of 5 Conference quarterback in the nation this season, posting 10.23 adjusted yards per attempt and elite marks in EPA per play, among other meaningful metrics.
It's unclear just how many key recruiting contacts Sherrone Moore and his staff are making on this bye week, but given they're flying 2000 miles just to see a high school quarterback who (at the earliest) might be on their roster two years from now, it's obvious where their focus is at the moment. Hopefully Moore can find the right fit for Michigan in 2025 and begin building back some of the program's momentum lost amid this disappointing season.
