From a historical level, Notre Dame has recruited and developed the offensive line as well as anyone. You can make a starting NFL offensive line out of former Fighting Irish standouts right now, and you would be in great shape. You can do a lot worse than the likes of Joe Alt, Ronnie Stanley, Mike McGlinchey, and Aaron Banks among others.

It’s early, but the Fighting Irish staff just extended offers to several talented 2027 offensive linemen during the Pot of Gold event. Saint Joseph (Ill.) Ogden offensive tackle Cameron Wagner was not one of those offered on St. Patrick’s Day. Instead, he was offered by the staff during a visit this week.

Wagner is rated highly from a recruiting rankings perspective. 247Sports has Wagner rated as the No. 64 overall player, No. 7 offensive tackle, and No. 1 player from the state of Illinois in the 2027 recruiting class currently. He is also rated very similarly on the 247Sports Composite Ranking, pegged as the No. 83 overall player and No. 11 offensive tackle on their ratings.

The 6-6, 280-pound offensive tackle is beginning to blow up in terms of programs showing legitimate interest. Some of the schools that have offered Wagner so far include the Fighting Irish, Penn State, Nebraska, Iowa, Louisville, Illinois, and Purdue. Other schools like Ohio State are also doing their homework on Wagner as well.

This recruitment feels eerily similar to Owen Strebig in the 2025 recruiting class. Like Strebig, he wasn’t offered during the Pot of Gold but it came very shortly after. He quickly became a priority for the program, which could also be the case for Wagner as well moving forward. Wagner is talented, and local to Notre Dame, which could make for an easy fit.

The first thing that pops out about Wagner is his frame. He boasts the body type to add substantial more weight on the next level, and impressive raw power. Add in raw movement skills and there is a lot of talent to tap into.
