It has been an unbelievable season for Notre Dame football so far. After losing to Northern Illinois in the second game of the season, things looked bleak for the Fighting Irish. Somehow this team has fully recovered, and won 13 straight to send themselves to the national championship game.
That unlikely resurgence is built on the personality of head coach Marcus Freeman. He has instilled mental toughness, unphased concentration, and a mean disposition into this group. Defensively, they are excellent, and have created a ton of turnovers. The running game is also a backbone of the program, led by sophomore star Jeremiyah Love.
Following the game, Love was available to the media for questions. He was asked about the game, his performance, and thoughts about the overall experience. The St. Louis native also gave some insight into who he would like to face in the national championship, and he wasn’t shy about it.
“We want to play Ohio State. We lost to them last year in a game we should have won… I feel like Ohio State is better than Texas. I want to play the best and win.”
That matchup last season was a tough hard-fought battle, with the Fighting Irish coming out with a 17-14 loss. As the main ball carrier behind Audric Estime, he rushed for just 57 yards on eight carries. His role in this hypothetical matchup would be at a much higher level. He will be a focal point of the offense with some much-needed rest.
Love also threw some slight shade at Texas. If the Longhorns do win, you can bet they will be using that quote as bulletin board material. This will definitely put the target on Love’s back but you can be sure that it won’t be something he won’t be ready for.
