After Notre Dame football and 2025 Arkansas running back Daniel Anderson parted ways, there was a clear need for a second running back in the class along with Florida speedster Justin Thurman. Behind the scenes, the Irish have been conducting a search. There have been several talented runners on the target list, including one who will be officially visiting for the first time this weekend for the game against Florida State.
2025 Wayne (N.J.) DePaul Catholic running back Nolan James has cemented an official visit to campus, and could be a very intriguing prospect for the Irish moving forward. While the New Jersey native does not currently hold an offer from Notre Dame, there is anticipation that it could change very quickly with a good visit.
If the high school sounds familiar, it is because James is high school teammates with Notre Dame wide receiver commit Elijah Burress. James is currently committed to Boston College, and has been since last December. From the sounds of it, Burress has been recruiting James from behind the scenes for a while now.
James is considered a consensus three-star recruit by every major recruiting platform currently. Rivals is the highest on the New Jersey native, pegging him as the No. 49 running back in the 2025 recruiting class. They also have him rated as the No. 19 player in New Jersey, a state that is quietly one of the more underrated producers of talent.
DePaul Catholic is off to a strong start so far this season, currently sitting with an 8-1 overall record. James is a big reason for that, sitting as the engine of a potent Spartan offense. In nine games, James has rushed for 1,419 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging a stellar 7.8 yards per carry. James has also hauled in 22 receptions for 265 yards and two more scores through the air.
