Notre Dame’s 2027 quarterback recruiting board is about to get even smaller with fewer options remaining in play
Notre Dame football is pushing to find its quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class. That target board is about to get a bit smaller soon.
When quarterback Teddy Jarrard ended up reclassifying to the 2026 class and signing with the Fighting Irish, Notre Dame football recruiting got a second chance at adding another talented signal caller to the 2027 group. There were three quarterbacks that head coach Marcus Freeman and the Irish staff decided to offer and pursue.
One of those talented quarterbacks was Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney standout Davin Davidson, who was offered along with Florida star Champ Monds and Utah signal caller Kamden Lopati. When it comes to Davidson, Notre Dame had a little bit of early momentum, but that quickly faded. Both Lopati and Monds became more likely targets for the Irish staff.
Davidson will officially be off the board on Thursday, where he now has a commitment date in place. The Florida signal caller will be deciding between Florida, Georgia, Auburn, and Kentucky, with the Gators being the assumed leader.
As of today, Notre Dame is in a good spot with Lopati. While he is committed to Illinois, Lopati is fresh off an unofficial visit to South Bend. Monds is also set to visit the Irish this offseason, which will give Freeman and Co. a chance to make a push. I have growing optimism that Notre Dame can close the deal with Lopati down the stretch.
Davin Davidson’s recruiting background
Davidson is a bit of a strange case when it comes to his recruiting rankings right now. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Davidson currently sits as a three-star, the No. 444 overall player, the No. 31 quarterback, and the No. 48 player from the state of Florida for the 2027 recruiting class. Rivals and ESPN have not rated the talented signal caller yet.
Despite that odd recruiting rankings profile, there is a long list of impressive programs that have been pursuing Davidson recently. Some of his top offers currently include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Florida, Miami, Florida State, Iowa, Auburn, Louisville, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, NC State, Virginia Tech, UNC, Cal, Duke, and Northwestern, among others.
As a junior in 2025, Davidson put together a tremendous season while leading Cardinal Mooney to a 14-1 overall record and a Florida 2A State championship. In those 15 games, the 6-6.5, 215-pound signal caller managed to throw for 2,360 yards and 23 touchdowns. Davidson also added three scores on the ground, while completing over 64 percent of his passes and throwing just six interceptions. While raw in some ways, Davidson has a lot of raw tools to get excited about.
