Notre Dame football is on quite the role from a recruiting perspective recently. With commitments from 2026 pass rushers Rodney Dunham and Ebenezer Ewetade the last week, the Fighting Irish are far from done. The next couple of months promises to be plentiful when it comes to acquiring top talent.

One player to keep a close eye on is Glenside (Pa.) La Salle College cornerback Joey O’Brien, who is one of the top overall defenders in the class. Some programs view O’Brien as a safety, while others like him at wide receiver. Notre Dame likes him at cornerback.

Mike Mickens and the Fighting Irish staff have been in the drivers seat for some time now. They took another step closer to potentially closing this one out. O’Brien put out a top six schools list on Thursday, and that included Notre Dame, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee, Penn State, and Clemson.

While that announcement was made, it didn’t take long for another priority Notre Dame target to chime in. Forney (Texas) High School running back Javian Osborne quote tweeted the announcement from On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Osborne appears to be interested in teaming up on the next level.

Osborne is viewed as a huge priority for Notre Dame, and they are viewed as the leader over Michigan. Obviously, the team will have to close the deal, but it does appear to be a little bit of recruiting for a Notre Dame lean.

O’Brien is currently rated as the No. 48 overall player and No. 5 athlete in the 2026 recruiting class according to 247Sports. The 6-3, 190-pound defensive back is also ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Pennsylvania, an area the Irish have already tapped into in the 2026 class with offensive lineman Tyler Merrill.

Osborne is also highly rated. He ranks as the No. 83 overall player, No. 6 running back, and No. 11 player in the state of Texas on the 247Sports Composite ranking. Outside of Notre Dame and Michigan, the 5-11, 195-pound runner also holds offers from Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC, Penn State, Miami, Florida, and Florida State among others.

Notre Dame will continue to push hard for both O’Brien and Osborne. This could be some foreshadowing for future Irish teammates potentially.
