The health of the Notre Dame running back room is in a great place. In the 2026 recruiting class, the Fighting Irish are trending in a great direction with several talented runners. That includes Forney (Texas) High School star Javian Osborne, who has become the priority for Coach Seider and the program. Notre Dame feels like the team to beat, and On3 vice president of recruiting Steve Wiltfong appears to agree.

In recent news, Osborne cut his top schools list down to two. The Fighting Irish were joined by the Michigan Wolverines, but clearly things are pointing toward Notre Dame. You can't undersell just how big this would be for Coach Seider and the Irish staff. Osborne is one of the very best running backs in the 2026 class, and comes from a state that the Irish are prioritizing in a big way.

Osborne is considered a four-star player by every one of the major recruiting platforms. He is currently ranked as the No. 83 overall player, No. 6 running back, and No. 11 player in Texas for the 2026 recruiting class according to 247Sports Composite ranking. Both the Rivals and 247Sports Composite rankings also have Osborne pegged as a top 100 overall player.

Outside of Osborne’s finalists, he was also pursued by several prominent programs. Some of his best offers include Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma, Tennessee, USC, Miami, Ole Miss, Florida, Penn State, Florida State, and Texas A&M among many others.

As a junior in 2024, Osborne put together a tremendous season for a talented Forney. team. In nine games played, he rushed for 1,085 yards and 21 touchdowns while averaging seven yards per carry. The 5-10, 195-pound runner also hauled in nine receptions for 168 yards and three more scores.
