Things are trending extremely quickly between Notre Dame football and 2026 Carrollton (Ga.) Central star running back Jonaz Walton. Things were in a good spot before Deland McCullough left for the Las Vegas Raiders, but it was uncertain how things would go with Ja’Juan Seider taking over. It appears that things have been going pretty darn well.
There was a recent expert prediction put in for the Georgia star to end up with the Fighting Irish. Things have escalated a step further, and Walton has set a commitment for Wednesday, May 14th at 3 PM Eastern Time. There were no finalists put out for Walton, but at this point, anyone but Notre Dame would be an upset.
Walton is very well-liked by all of the major recruiting platforms. He is currently ranked as a four-star player by each and everyone one of the platforms, including being the No. 124 overall player, and No. 10 running back in the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite ranking. That rating also has Walton rated as the No. 18 player in the state of Georgia, an area that the Irish staff has tried to make a much greater priority under head coach Marcus Freeman.
The offer list also matches the high rankings for Walton. The Georgia standout has been no short of impressive options in his recruitment, currently holding scholarships from the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Alabama, Michigan, Tennessee, USC, Florida, Auburn, Nebraska, South Carolina, and Florida State among a list of many others.
As a junior this past season, Walton put together another outstanding campaign for Carrollton. In 12 games that he played, Walton rushed for 1,387 yards and 14 touchdowns. The 5-9, 210-pound athlete also managed to haul in an additional 39 receptions for 646 yards and four more scores through the air, while also averaging North of 38 yards per kick return as well as the team’s special teams weapon.
The Fighting Irish just received a massive commitment from Texas star running back Javian Osborne. The prospects of adding Walton to pair with him is potentially one of the best we have seen in some time. Coach Seider is making his impact known early.
