Notre Dame predicted to land elite defensive back who would arguably be the most talented recruit that Mike Mickens has landed
Notre Dame football has been on quite a roll from a recruiting perspective in the secondary. It appears a 2027 target is trending to the Fighting Irish quickly.
Notre Dame football has been on a remarkable stretch recruiting defensive backs since head coach Marcus Freeman took over the program. Secondary coach Mike Mickens needs the majority of that credit. During his tenure, he has managed to attract a long list of talented defensive backs, including Benjamin Morrison, Leonard Moore, Christian Gray, Dallas Golden, Mark Zackery, JaDon Blair, Joey O’Brien, and Khary Adams.
It appears that trend of outstanding recruiting isn’t ending anytime soon for the Fighting Irish. The program has created a lot of positive early momentum for the 2027 recruiting class already. That includes elite Raleigh (N.C.) Cardinal Gibbons cornerback Xavier Hasan, one of the more natural cover men in the country.
Blue and Gold Illustrated recruiting insider Mike Singer has submitted a prediction for Hasan to land with the Fighting Irish.
Xavier Hasan as a recruit
This would certainly be a huge commitment in several ways if Notre Dame does land Hasan. That would mean the program has continued its impact in the state of North Carolina, which includes the likes of Bryce Young, Micah Gilbert, and JaDon Blair in recent years. Hasan would be more proof that it is becoming a very pro-Notre Dame territory.
The bigger impact with Hasan is the fact that he’s a really talented football player. The North Carolina standout is considered to be a Top-100 caliber recruit by multiple major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Hasan currently ranks as the No. 44 overall player, the No. 5 cornerback, and the No. 1 player from the state of North Carolina for the 2027 recruiting class. Those rankings are enough to get everyone excited.
The 6-0, 180-pound cornerback is not short of options to play on the college level. His offer list is about as strong as you will find in the 2027 recruiting class overall. Some of the top programs that have offered Hasan include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, Florida, Ole Miss, Penn State, Miami, Florida State, Nebraska, Auburn, Louisville, NC State, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, South Carolina, Arkansas, Michigan State, UNC, Indiana, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Virginia, Wake Forest, Wisconsin, UCLA, and SMU among others.
In five games as a junior, opposing offenses have done whatever they can to steer clear of Hasan. He has recorded just five total tackles and an interception so far this season. Hasan does also handle kickoff and punt return duties for the team, having returned one for a touchdown already. That’s fresh off a sophomore year where Hasan intercepted seven passes and broke up another eight, and it appears opponents have learned from their 2024 mistakes.
