We are now in NFL hiring seasons, and there have been a lot of news about teams across the league requesting and setting up interviews for current openings. That includes the Cleveland Browns, who are looking for a new offensive coordinator to work underneath head coach Kevin Stefanski.

There are going to be a lot of names circulating, and it wasn’t overly shocking when it was announced that current Browns staffer Tommy Rees conducted an interview for the position. In some circles, it’s believed that Rees could be the front runner, currently serving as tight ends coach and passing game specialist for the team.

Rees was a member of the Notre Dame program as a quarterback from 2010-13 before beginning his coaching career. He initially spent two seasons with the then San Diego Chargers and Northwestern before returning to South Bend. Rees would spend six seasons with the Fighting Irish as an assistant coach, serving as quarterback coach and offensive coordinator during that stretch.

After the 2022 college football season, Rees joined Nick Saban’s final season with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Unfortunately for Rees, he wasn’t retained by the program after Saban retired, eventually ending up with the Browns. It appears there’s a pretty strong possibility that Rees could remain with the Browns.

For people who don’t know, Stefanski does handle the play calling duties for the Browns. An offensive coordinator on this staff would be more involved in developing the scheme, and handling the group on a day to day basis. They will have a large imprint on that offensive unit.
