Notre Dame football is set for their biggest challenges of the 2024 season so far on Saturday, when they take on the Louisville Cardinals at home. There is some revenge on the mind of the Irish program, who is coming off of a 33 to 20 loss to the program last season. Head coach Marcus Freeman spoke to the media on Monday, both recapping the 28 to 3 victory over Miami (OH) from this past weekend, and setting the table for the matchup against Louisville.
As a part of that conversation, Coach Freeman updated the media on the latest with injuries. One wasn’t overly surprising, while another injury has surfaced. Both will have some impact for the game this weekend.
The first was defensive end Joshua Burnham, who hasn’t been available the last couple of weeks with an ankle injury. After being listed as questionable against the Miami (OH) RedHawks, some did speculate that Burnham will most likely be a full go against Louisville. According to Coach Freeman, Burnham still remains questionable. The tone didn’t sound overly confident.
Speaking of ankle injuries, Notre Dame will be without tight end Cooper Flanagan this weekend. He is dealing with a left ankle injury that occurred during the Miami (OH) game. That means that the tight end room will now be depending on Mitchell Evans and Eli Raridon, with a sprinkling of Kevin Bauman. It will be interesting to see if true freshman Jack Larsen does get some increased practice reps this week just in case.
It’s not injury related but Coach Freeman also announced that cornerback Jaden Mickey will also be opting out of the rest of the season to preserve his redshirt. The plan is for him to enter the transfer portal and explore options after the season. Mickey will obviously not be available against Louisville.
