Notre Dame football gained a tremendous commitment on Wednesday night from 2027 Waco (Texas) Midway running back Lathan Whisenton over Florida and Texas Tech, among many others. The Lone Star speedster brings outstanding big-play potential and some unreal explosiveness. He could be one of the next great running backs for head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish.

With Whisenton now aboard, it’s always a fun exercise to make some 2027 predictions. Here are the next five Notre Dame commitments that I could see happening. A lot can change over the next few months, but the Irish are in a good spot with several talented targets. Here are some names to know, although not necessarily in order.

OT Cameron Wagner – St. Joseph (Ill.) Ogden

Wagner joining the Notre Dame 2027 class feels like a matter of when, not if. The 6-6, 300-pound offensive tackle has been on Joe Rudolph’s radar for quite some time, and the high interest has been consistently reciprocated. He is a big and physical offensive lineman that Rudolph has always valued. The Illinois native is the easiest bet to end up in the 2027 group.

WR Cade Cooper – Malvern (Pa.) Prep

At 6-3 and 192 pounds, Cooper is an impressive blend of size, length, and explosiveness. While he is still a bit raw as a wide receiver, he has all the upside to develop into a tremendous boundary option down the road. Notre Dame has put itself in a very strong standing. At this point, this feels like their recruitment to lose.

DT David Folorunsho – Chicago (Ill.) St. Patrick

Folorunsho has been one of the biggest risers in the 2027 recruiting class so far. Now considered a five-star defensive tackle by some, he has quickly become a “can’t miss target” for the Irish, especially with his ties to the Notre Dame program. At 6-4 and 285 pounds, Folorunsho is a tremendous athlete with a ton of upside. The Irish have been in a great spot for a bit.

S Gavin Williams – La Verne (Calif.) Damien

Williams visited South Bend a couple of weekends ago, and things have been trending in a great direction since then. They will have to close the deal against an elite offer list, including the in-state USC Trojans. The 6-1, 180-pound defensive back would be another great compliment to go along with Ace Alston, Xavier Hasan, and Khalil Terry.

EDGE Abraham Sesay – Exton (Pa.) Downingtown East

Sesay is considered to be a near-consensus top-100 player by each of the major recruiting platforms. Notre Dame has been leading for the Pennsylvania pass rusher for some time now. The 6-6, 225-pound defensive end has five-star upside in the class, and is already bordering on it on the 247 Sports ranking. This is the type of pass rusher that the Fighting Irish seem to be attracting more recently.
