Most people woke up to the horrible tragedy that took place in New Orleans last night, when a man drove a vehicle into a crowd in the Bourbon Street area overnight. At least ten people lost their lives, and more than 30 were injured during the act. While people mourn the tragedy this morning, there is now uncertainty around the Sugar Bowl matchup against Notre Dame and Georgia, which was scheduled to kickoff at 8:45 PM Eastern time at the Caesar’s Superdome.

ESPN College Football Senior writer Pete Thamel joined College Gameday earlier, and gave the most recent update surrounding the contest. There were some early reports that the Sugar Bowl was planning on kicking off at the original time, but it appears that there is a lot of uncertainty currently out there despite that initial optimism.

According to Thamel, we are still awaiting official word if the Sugar Bowl will be played. As of now, the game is still scheduled for that 8:45 PM time slot, but the police are scheduled to have a press conference at 2 PM Eastern time to discuss the tragedy, and potentially give more insight into the outlook of the event.

Thamel also reported that employees who have offices in the Superdome were told to not go into work today. It is believed to be a “wait and see” situation as to what is next, and what happens to tonight’s game.

The FBI is currently investigating the event as an act of terror with devices being found, and they have been sweeping the French Quarter to see if there are any more devices. There is uncertainty about the Sugar Bowl currently, but we all should have some clarity over the next couple of hours.

ESPN reporter Laura Rutledge gave another recent update on College Gameday. Here is what she had to say:

The players are "locked down at the hotel"…"CFB Playoff officials are meeting with police meeting with FBI"…"they swept the stadium with dogs detecting explosives two days ago. They determined it safe at that point then locked it down."…"They're doing that again right now as we speak. So currently you can't get inside the Superdome as they do everything possible to secure it for what we hope will be a game tonight."

As more information comes out, the team at A to Z Sports will continue to keep everyone updated. Parties are doing their best to navigate this horrible event, and only time will tell how the Sugar Bowl is affected.
