Ryan Day is about to enter the biggest game of his college football career when Tennessee comes to Columbus on Saturday. After losing to Michigan a fourth straight time, the pressure is on Day.

Despite athletic director Ross Bjork coming out and saying that Day has the job of head coach, things can change. A disappointing loss to Tennessee could put pressure on Ohio State to move on from Day.

If the Buckeyes were to move on from Day, former Ohio State standout Mike Vrabel has been No. 1 on the wishlist of a large part of Buckeye Nation.

ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and said that he believes Vrabel has a vision of where he is going. Orlovsky wouldn’t say whether it is the NFL or college football, so McAfee and the folks on his show jumped to it being Ohio State. Orlovsky never really said it was indeed the team in Columbus.

Former Ohio State standout and current talk show host Bobby Carpenter pushed back on the idea of Vrabel coming to Columbus.

“I watched it… Pat made the big jump to OSU. Which I can assure you isn't where Dan was referring… Vrabes most likely has a landing spot in the NFL and the job might not even be open yet,” Carpenter said via X.

Carpenter played in Columbus in 2004 and 2005. Vrabel played at Ohio State in 1995 and played in the NFL until 2010, before returning to Columbus to coach linebackers in 2011. Vrabel worked his way up to being the head coach of the Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2023. After being let go by the Titans following the 2023 season, Vrabel is now with the Cleveland Browns as a consultant.

Going from the NFL to college football is a jump that some question whether or not Vrabel wants to do. Several NFL head coaching jobs are already open and a few more will soon come open. It is widely expected that Vrabel will draw interest from several of those teams.

Ohio State again remains adamant that they will be keeping Day around. After all, he does have a 66-10 record as a head coach in Columbus. However, if Ohio State falls on their face Saturday that could change. If it does, folks shouldn’t get their hopes up for Vrabel to be the next guy in charge.
