Ohio State basketball is bringing a Columbus area native in for a visit from the transfer portal, and they very well could get him
Ohio State’s first known visitor from the transfer portal is known. The Buckeyes will need several guards and the Columbus native could fill one spot.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have a few glaring needs on the basketball team following multiple transfer portal departures. Ohio State has had forwards Devin Royal and Colin White leave the program via the portal, as well as guards Gabe Cupps and Taison Chatman.
Ohio State will need at least two guards from the portal and potentially three with Bruce Thornton’s graduation. The Buckeyes are already eyeing a Columbus area native to fill one of those sports.
Former Olentangy Orange standout to visit Ohio State from the transfer portal
According to Eleven Warriors, Ohio State will host Davidson freshman guard Devin Brown for a visit. Brown was a standout at Olentangy Orange and a class of 2025 recruit before playing the 2025-2026 season at Davidson.
Brown isn’t a player the Buckeyes recruited out of high school, but clearly now think the 6-foot-6 shooting guard can contribute at the Big Ten level. Brown started 27 of the 34 games he played in as a true freshman for Davidson and averaged 6.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while playing 23.4 minutes per game.
If the Buckeyes were to get a commitment from Brown, he’d be filling the Chatman role off the bench ideally. Ohio State could use the size at the guard position offered by Brown.
Brown is a surprising first name to be known for the Buckeyes for players they’re hosting for a visit. With Brown being from the area right in Lewis Center, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he ended up with Ohio State for his sophomore season.
