The Ohio State Buckeyes missed the NCAA Tournament for a third straight season and Jake Diebler’s program badly needs a spark.

Ohio State opted not to play in the inaugural College Basketball Crown, which is a new postseason tournament. Diebler pointed to the timing of the event running with the transfer portal as one of the reasons.

Speaking of the transfer portal, Ohio State could hit that area of roster building hard and they may need to. The Buckeyes have already been connected to some names, and another has now surfaced.

Ohio State showing interest in coveted Nevada big man

Ohio State needs to add size in the transfer portal. Not having a quality center was one of the Buckeyes’ biggest issues in 2024. They thought they had an answer with Kentucky transfer Aaron Bradshaw, but he averaged just 6.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in 22 games played.

According to On3’s Joe Tipton, the Buckeyes are one program that has reached out to Nevada transfer Nick Davidson, who is a 6-foot-8 forward who is going to give a team a very productive player.

During the 2024-2025 season, Davidson averaged 15.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.8 rebounds per game. Davidson shot the ball at a 37 percent clip from three-point range and he averaged 1.2 blocks per game.

The Buckeyes are once again going to have to bring in multiple players in the portal and Davidson would be a terrific addition. He has produced in all three seasons at Nevada and brings an all-around game that would fit right in with Ohio State.

A ton of schools are showing interest in the Nevada transfer, which means a solid NIL package could end up making a difference. Keep an eye on Davidson, who is one player sticking out to the Buckeyes so far.
