Ohio State picked up a bounce-back win on the court on Wednesday night when Washington (12-12) came to town. The Buckeyes were able to blowout the Huskies, 93-69, a couple of days after falling to Nebraska.
The Buckeyes (15-10) used a fast start in the first half to build a 51-36 lead. Ohio State didn’t slow down from there as John Mobley and Micah Parrish finished with 21 points apiece and a combined eight made three-pointers.
Next up for Ohio State is their first matchup with Michigan since Dusty May took over the program. No. 20 Michigan is 19-5 on the season and the top team in the Big Ten.
"I don't believe in minimizing that game and that rivalry,” Ohio State head coach John Diebler said after the win over Washington. “There is more to it this time of year, but make no mistake, this is a rivalry game. We’ll embrace everything that comes with that."
Michigan is coming off an impressive 75-73 win over No. 7 Purdue. The Buckeyes will host Michigan on Sunday at 1:00 p.m., in what should be a good crowd in Columbus.
Ohio State has just six regular season games remaining before the Big Ten tournament. In Diebler’s first season as the official head coach of the team, Ohio State is in a spot to make the NCAA Tournament as long as they don’t fall off in a major way.
Games against Northwestern, USC, and Indiana need to be won for Ohio State to close out the season. Getting payback against Nebraska would be huge in the second to last regular season game and UCLA poses a tough test too.
Ohio State was interested in May before he landed with Michigan and before the Buckeyes decided to make Diebler their head coach. They’ll go head-to-head on Sunday.
