Jake Diebler and the Ohio State Buckeyes landed their first transfer portal commitment on Wednesday when G Gabe Cupps announced he would be a Buckeye.
Adding Cupps gives the Buckeyes needed depth at point guard. Still, the biggest need for Ohio State is size in the front court. Ohio State has suffered two losses to the transfer portal with C Austin Parks and F Evan Mahaffey both leaving the program.
Ohio State has been connected to numerous frontcourt players, but the latest one seems like the player they have to go all in with.
Ohio State set to meet with Santa Clara 7-footer who averaged double-figures scoring
According to Joe Tipton of On3, the Buckeyes are holding a Zoom call with Santa Clara transfer C Christoph Tilly on Thursday. Tilly is a 7-foot-0, 225-pound center who put up 12.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game in 31 starts during the 2024-2025 season.
Tilly shot just under two three-pointers a game at a 31 percent clip and he carried a 55 percent field goal percentage in 2024-2025. Tilly has spent the last three seasons at Santa Clara where he has started 59 of the 86 total games he has played in.
In addition to meeting with Ohio State, Tilly is also set to hold a Zoom call with Big Ten for Illinois on Thursday as well. It could be the two Big Ten opponents in a battle for the seven-footer.
Ivan Njegovan is the only scholarship center the Buckeyes currently have on the roster. He played just 5.7 minutes per game and appeared in 21 games.
A player who brings size and the ability to stretch the floor would be a nice fit for the Buckeyes to add alongside F Devin Royal. We’ll see if Tilly can end up being their second addition from the portal for this cycle.
