Ohio State officially has its first audition from the transfer portal following its 2024-2025 season.

So far early in the off-season for the Buckeyes, the men’s basketball team has lost C Austin Parks and F Evan Mahaffey to the transfer portal. Now, Ohio State has won over their addition and it is a familiar face.

Indiana G Gabe Cupps commits to Ohio State from the transfer portal

The Buckeyes were the favorite to land the former Ohio Mr. Basketball winner from the NCAA Transfer Portal the second that he entered. That has now happened and Cupps took to his Instagram to announce the commitment.

Cupps is a 6-foot-1 and former four-star recruit in the class of 2023. Ohio State had offered Cupps out of high school but he committed to Indiana where he spent his first two seasons. Cupps attended Centerville High School where he played under his father, Brook.  247 Sports has Cupps ranked as the No. 81 overall transfer and No. 15 point guard.

As a freshman at Indiana, Cupps put out 2.6 points, 1.2 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game in 22 starts. Cupps was mainly a facial intro in his role, though he is a capable shooter as well. Cupps played in just four games this past season due to an injury that kept him out.

The Buckeyes needed guard depth, though size on the interior is their biggest need that they have to address in the transfer portal. In an ideal world, Cupps can step in and replace Ques Glover as the backup point guard for the Buckeyes.

The first addition is off the board for the Buckeyes and they still have plenty of work to do if they hope to end their NCAA Tournament drought next season.
