Ohio State did the majority of their transfer portal work in the winter following their National Championship run. The Buckeyes made key additions like TE Max Klare, OT Ethan Onianwa, and OT Phillip Daniels.
So far in the spring portal, the Buckeyes have been a lot more quiet as was expected. Ohio State has made two additions so far and one of them has a chance to be a huge piece of the team during the 2025 season.
"Very excited about adding Beau [Atkinson],” Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said on Tuesday of his new defender. “We think that it's a great addition to the room, somebody who has some real experience, some real size and he's excited about being at Ohio State."
Atkinson comes over from North Carolina where he cleared seven sacks last season. Coming to Ohio State, Atkinson wants to play at an elite program and with the best of the best. With J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer now off to the NFL, the Buckeyes needed some more proven help off the edge.
Caden Curry and Kenyatta Jackson are the two players returning with the most experience but there is just a combined eight sacks between the two. Heading into their fourth season with the program, each player is set to take one final step forward.
Atkinson has 11 sacks over his first two college seasons and has a chance to be the difference maker off of the edge for the Buckeyes in 2025. One of the more highly coveted transfers this spring that Georgia was after as well.
At 6-foot-6, and 265 pounds, Atkinson is a physical force who offers pass rush upside that the Buckeyes are used to. Don’t be sure surprised if he ends up being the sack leader in 2025 for Ohio State.
