Ryan Day isn’t expected to be as aggressive in the transfer portal this spring, as most of the Ohio State Buckeyes’ transfer portal additions came in the winter.
However, the Buckeyes could add depth to the defensive line if the right player comes along. Following the spring game, Day admitted he would have to look at it.
"I think we've got to take a hard look at it," Day said. "I don't think I have the answer right now. But we've got to look at it. It seemed to me like there was just a lot of knockback on the offensive side of the ball here. But then again, I don't want to make any judgments until I watch the film."
Ohio State a school to watch for standout Syracuse DT Maraad Watson
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, the Buckeyes are one of four schools that are “heavily in the mix” for former Freshman All-American DT Maraad Watson from Syracuse. Other schools in contention are Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas.
Ohio State lost both Ty Hamilton and Tyleik Willams to the NFL draft and Hero Kanu opted to transfer to Texas to join the Longhorns. Kayden McDonald and Eddrick Hiuston are the likely starters for the Buckeyes in the middle, but they need more depth. Jason Moore, Tywone Malone Jr., and Will Smith Jr. are the current defensive interior options.
Watson was a standout for Syracuse as a true freshman with 31 tackles and a sack. The 6-foot-3, 313-pound defender was a three-star recruit out of New Jersey in 2024. Watson had other offers from Tennessee, Rutgers, and Nebraska.
Ohio State looks poised to add in the trenches this spring with any additions they make. Expect Watson to make a choice before long and Ohio State could be a landing spot.
