Texas Longhorns hit with tough injury news to key depth that could impact Arch Manning weeks ahead of game against Ohio State
The Longhorns will be a bit lesser of a team heading into Columbus.
When the Ohio State Buckeyes host the Texas Longhorns to open the 2025 season, it will be a rematch of last year’s Cotton Bowl—and likely a showdown between the top two ranked teams in the country.
Both teams are replacing several key players from last season who went off to the NFL, and now Texas is being forced to make an early adjustment due to injury.
Texas loses potential starter ahead of 2025 season
According to Inside Texas, it is believed that Longhorns offensive lineman Andre Cojoe suffered a torn ACL during fall camp, an injury that is expected to sideline him indefinitely. Cojoe had been competing with Brandon Baker for the starting right tackle job, a key position responsible for protecting quarterback Arch Manning.
While the loss of Cojoe might not impact Texas significantly in Week 1, it’s a big hit to their depth—something critical in today’s extended college football season. Competing for a national championship now means playing 15 or more games, and sustaining health across the roster is essential.
With Cojoe sidelined, Baker is expected to step in as the starting right tackle. That puts him directly in the crosshairs of Ohio State’s pass rush, which will feature Kenyatta Jackson, Beau Atkinson, Caden Curry, Logan George, and C.J. Hicks.
The Buckeyes have had one injury scare of their own this fall with defensive tackle Eddrick Houston, but he is expected to return to practice this week.
Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game, and now Texas has taken an early hit before what promises to be a high-stakes opener.
