Fans of the Oklahoma Sooners have gotten used to some tough injury news in recent seasons. That hasn’t changed this offseason, as the Sooners have already battled injuries in spring camp.

Those prior reported injuries aren’t all for the Sooners. Starting running back Xavier Robinson will also miss the entire spring while recovering from prior injuries. Already before spring camp even ends, several expected key contributors are missing a key period for development.

However, there is some positive news in here that should hopefully calm fans of the Oklahoma Sooners down.

Silver Linings for the Oklahoma Sooners a welcome sign

It was reported earlier that promising sophomore wide receiver Elijah Thomas is in a boot. Sources tell me that the injury is considered minor (likely a sprain) and he will only miss a couple of weeks. Additionally, key transfer wide receiver Trell Harris’s surgery is a clean up surgery, but he will most likely miss the entirety of the spring while he works back to 100%.

Perhaps the most encouraging news is that Robinson’s update isn’t nearly as severe as it sounds. Keep in mind that Robinson battled injuries towards the end of last season, and he had an operation shortly after the season ended. He’s still working back from that, and the Oklahoma Sooners are likely taking it slow and cautious with him to return to form. Robinson will be a key contributor this season, so it only makes sense they handle it with caution.

Fortunately, unlike prior seasons, the Sooners have the depth to absorb losses like these without throwing their plans awry. Youngsters like Jonathan Hatton and DeZephen Walker have hit the ground running with Robinson out. Oklahoma has had other players like transfer Mackenzie Alleyne and Jahsiear Rogers step up to fill in the void at wide receiver as well.

We’ll stay on top of the news as much as possible.
